How We Started
From a Living Room to a Growing Family
We exist to abide in Christ and make Him known — teaching the whole Word of God, welcoming every person through our doors, and bearing fruit that lasts in the South Bay and beyond.
"I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing." — John 15:5
The Vine Calvary began with a simple conviction: that National City needs a church where people can encounter the living God through His Word. What started as a small gathering of believers hungry for Scripture has grown into a warm, multigenerational church family in the heart of the South Bay.
We are affiliated with Calvary Chapel, a movement known for its verse-by-verse teaching through the Bible, its love for worship, and its heart for the lost. We carry that same DNA — expository preaching, Spirit-led worship, and a genuine welcome for anyone who walks through our doors.
Our name comes from John 15 — Jesus' picture of Himself as the Vine and His people as the branches. Everything we do flows from that image: staying connected to Christ, bearing fruit that lasts, and remaining in His love.

Calvary Chapel
Calvary Chapel is a worldwide movement of churches that began in Costa Mesa, California in the late 1960s. We are known for expository, verse-by-verse teaching through the entire Bible, a love for contemporary worship, and a balanced approach to the gifts of the Holy Spirit. As a Calvary Chapel church, The Vine Calvary shares these convictions and is part of a global family of believers.

Our Core Beliefs

The Bible
We believe the Bible is the inspired, inerrant Word of God — our final authority for faith and life.
The Trinity
We believe in one God eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Jesus Christ
We believe Jesus is fully God and fully man — born of a virgin, crucified for our sins, risen from the dead, and coming again.
Salvation by Grace
We believe salvation is a free gift received through faith in Jesus Christ alone — not by works or human effort.
The Holy Spirit
We believe the Holy Spirit indwells every believer, empowering us to live for God and bear fruit in our lives.
The Church
We believe the local church is God's primary vehicle for making disciples, serving the community, and proclaiming the gospel.
